Has it ever occured to you that the Internet exists solely so people who should be working have a way to slack off? Just a thought.
As evidence for this theory, let's consider a new video called Tea Partay, by a "group" called Prep Unit or P-Unit. It's a rap-themed spoof on a tea party that's become what's known these days as a "viral hit", which means that it's become wildly popular, mostly by word of mouth.
Of course, if you guessed that commerce had something to do with all this, you'd get yourself a lifetime supply of Rice-A-Roni, or whatever. Tea Partay is actually a marketing video for a new malt beverage product from Smirnoff called Raw Tea.
Now, if you'd like to find out a little more about what Raw Tea is, good luck to you. Smirnoff has a Tea Partay Web site set up here. As of right now, it just redirects to the Smirnoff Ice Web site, which features a small banner ad for the product and nothing more.
If you try Smirnoff's main Web site, you're presented with attractive, but not very user friendly animations that do little or nothing to aid in your quest for information - but they do look really nice.
Which seems like a pretty lamebrained way to capitalize on a "viral hit". Then again, no one ever asks me for my wise advice on these things. They just go ahead and do them.
A little more digging led me to a beverage distributors' site, which has this to say, "Smirnoff takes natural raw tea brewed in a premium malt beverage that is then ice-filtered five times to create a powerfully smooth, infinitely refreshing taste that is naturally loaded with flavor! Smirnoff Raw Tea is now available in three tasty flavors that are sure to be a treat for your taste buds; lemon, peach and raspberry."
If you'd like to enjoy this latest, greatest and sure to be ephemeral masterpiece of pop culture/commerce, you can check it out at YouTube, right here.
